The Pokrovsky cathedral is the main church of Primorsky region. Initially it was located at the territory of the graveyard so its history is closely connected with it. The territory of the memorial Pokrovsky park is the former territory of that graveyard. Relics and wonderworking icons are brought here from all over the world. Construction of the Pokrovsky cathedral was started in 1900. In the beginning of the 20th century it was the second biggest cathedral of Vladivostok and was designed for 700 people. In 1902 a parochial school for about 30 Korean and some Russian students was built close to it.
The cathedral was exploded in 1935 after the October Revolution and reconstructed in 2007. The parochial school was opened again. The area of the renewed cathedral is 600 square meters and its height is 40 meters. It accommodates up to 1000 people. Nowadays the cathedral comprises the social care and charity departments and also the rehabilitation center for the drug- and alcohol addicted.
The outer appearance of the Pokrovsky cathedral is very close to the look of Old Russian churches.
